Visualization of Projection Pursuit Classification Tree Models
PPtreeViz, an R package, was developed to utilize projection pursuit methods for classification in the framework of decision trees, and provide visualization methods to diagnose the models. The PPtree method produces simpler trees, and outperforms a classification tree if the differences between groups are in linear combinations of the variables. Various projection pursuit indices can be used to find best projections for classification and to explore the results in the space of projections. Functions for visualization of the tree structure and the features of each node in PPtreeViz can be used to easily explore the model structure and determine the characteristics of each class.
